India’s film industry is one of the oldest and largest in the world. Indian film received a public screening in the early 1913. While a number of other film-makers, working in several Indian languages, pioneered the growth and development of Indian cinema, the studio system began to emerge in the early 1930s.
Hundred years of Indian Cinema:
Cinema is extremely popular in India, with as many as 1,500 films produced in various languages every year. Indian cinema is a global enterprise. Its films have a following throughout Southern Asia and across Europe, North America, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, China and elsewhere, reaching in over 90 countries. It’s been over hundred years, yet the fascination for movies has not faded for a nation that holds billions of Indians. World’s first motion picture was made in 1912 and barely around a year later India’s first motion picture “Raja Harishchandra” was produced and released.
Women who changed face of the Indian Cinema:
When we study about the immensely rich history of the Indian cinema, we read about the unwavering who were mostly male. But, over the past few centuries or so, several women have become pioneers in their own right, thus paving the path for other women. A few such women include the iconic actress Nargis, who became the first woman to win a National Award for her role in the 1967 film Raat Aur Din. Born Nirmala Nagpal, Saroj Khan is the first female choreographer and has choreographed more than 2,000 songs. Fatma Begum, the first female director, established her own production house, Fatma Films. She wrote, directed, produced, and even acted in several of the films under her banner. She was not just the first female director, but was also one of the pioneers of fantasy cinema.
Essence of a great script:
One needs to believe in their story with all their heart to make it worth telling. The process of getting a screenplay ‘thumbs-up’ is extremely time-taking and full of rejection, that the writer has to consistently go back to the seed of his inspiration. And everyone in that fraternity has a fairly set view on what works and what does not. That’s why only the bravest writers, most convinced of their story, manage to avoid the pitfalls that come with early collaborations. They trust their diligence and their stories.
Importance of the film being a success:
Success of a film depends on various entities namely director, the actors, the way in which the the film is promoted, etc. Success of a film is decided by the friday that it is released on, The incoming revenue that would otherwise be large, would slow down incase two films clash on the same day. The film being a success is also directly proportional to the success of the protagonist of the film.
